Charity Ride Update

79 days to go until the start date and the excitement is building. There’s plenty of training going on and my fitness and endurance are continuing to build.

I’ve also being looking closely at various logistics including the route that I am aiming to take. There are some links below that will take you to google maps of the first few days. Obviously these are provisional and open to adaptation depending on how each day goes. The first day is pretty set in stone as I need to reach the Holiday Inn Express at Eurotunnel in order to be able to take the train the following morning at 8am. After that who knows.

I’m also learning a whole variety of repairs so that I can mend the bike on route if necessary which is also bringing about the need for an inventory of equipment and replacement parts that I will need to carry.

My donation page is up and running (the link button is on the left hand side of the screen) and I’m super grateful to those who have already donated. It asked me for a target and as I had no idea I set it at £1 a mile. Obviously this is a shot in the dark and I would love to raise lots more than this to make even more of a difference to people’s lives. There has been some question as to whether the money raised for Watoto is being used for my personal trip. This ISN’T the case!! All money raised for Watoto will go towards the building project! We are aiming to raise £16000 in order to provide a new house to cater for 8 children and 1 housemother and hopefully this will put a significant amount into that. In terms of my personal trip my aim is to cut back and save money towards that myself, picking up various bits of work along the way. And as I’ve said in earlier posts my aim is also to fund the expenses for the cycle ride myself, allowing all money to go where it is needed.

So, here is the route so far, it takes me to the Pyrenees. Follow the links to see the different days. The first day has 2 as google wouldn’t plan a route over the Dartford Crossing. These don’t include rest days, of which there will be at least one in this section. So here it is:
