Cycling for Charity

Some of you will have noticed that I am training like a mad thing at the moment and whilst losing weight is an added bonus it isn’t the ultimate purpose!! The training is currently aiming towards October when I intend to undertake a ride for charity. The ride will take place over 2-3 weeks and I will cycle from here in Braintree to a small village in southern Spain called Guajar Fondon where our friends Jon, Emma, Joseph and Anna live. It a distance of approximately 1350 miles.

My aim with the ride is to raise money for two areas: Macmillan and Watoto.

Macmillan is particularly close to my heart as they took amazing care of my Grandma in the last weeks of her life and I relish the opportunity to be able to give something back.

Watoto is another area that inspires me. It is a charity working in Uganda with orphaned children and vulnerable women. We hosted the Watoto children’s choir at Christ Church and they were thoroughly inspirational. A group of us are heading out on a mission trip in August 2015 to take part in a house building project where we will take part in the building of a house in a Watoto village that will house 8 children and a housemother totally transforming their lives. As a group we are aiming to raise a significant amount of money in order to fund this project. (see their website for more info)

My aim is also to self fund the ride including equipment, food, lodgings etc so that all money raised can go towards the charities. There are several ways you are able to sponsor me  if you would like to, including the following:

  • Leaving a comment here to pledge money
  • Seeing me to fill in a sponsor form
  • Messaging me via facebook, twitter, email etc.
  • various online and text giving (coming soon)

My training will be continuing and increasing over the next weeks and months and I will post regular updates here on that and also links to a number of other fundraising events that are coming up for the Watoto project.
